RALEIGH, NC April 16, 2011 – The American Red Cross has opened shelters at the following locations to assist those affected by the tornadoes and severe storms today.
Wake County
Garner United Methodist Church, 201 Methodist Dr., Garner, 27529
Heritage High School - 1150 Forestville Road, Wake Forest, NC, 27587
Johnston County – Feeding Location only
Micro Middle School, 301 E. Main St, Micro, NC 27576
Lee County
SanLee Middle School - 2309 Tramway Rd. Sanford, NC 27330
Red Cross volunteers will provide warm meals and a shoulder to lean on for those with immediate, disaster-caused needs.
Anyone evacuating to a Red Cross shelter should bring essential items for each member of the family:
Prescriptions and emergency medications
Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents
Extra clothing, pillows, blankets, hygiene supplies and other comfort items
Supplies needed for children and infants, such as diapers, formula and toys
Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
Note – Public health regulations do not permit pets in shelters; service animals are permitted.
