September 6, 2011 – The American Red Cross continues to provide assistance to North Carolina residents affected by Hurricane Irene. Three shelters remain open, although two are expected to close later this week due to decreased client needs.
The three shelters are located at:
Rodanthe Community Center, 23645 Nc Hwy 12, Salvo, NC.
Pamlico Community College, 5049 Hwy. 306 South, Grantsboro, NC.
Snowd Branch Church of God, 3283 Voa Road, Washington, NC.
People can find open Red Cross shelters by viewing an interactive Google map at www.redcross.org or by downloading the free Red Cross shelter app for their iPhone from the iTunes store.
One kitchen will continue to be open at the Second Baptist Church, 2516 W. 5th Street, Washington, NC to support mobile feeding operations until supper on Thursday, September 8.
Additionally, there are nine FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers scheduled to be open throughout Eastern North Carolina with an additional two to be opened later this week. Partners such as the American Red Cross will be at the centers as well. The centers are available to residents for any questions or referrals they may need.
