AMERICAN RED CROSS RESPONDS TO CHRISTMAS FIRE
RALEIGH, NC(December 25, 2011)— Local American Red Cross volunteers responded to an apartment fire at Green Castle Apartments on New Hope Church Road, at 4:15 a.m.on Christmas morning. The team of Red Cross volunteers helped coordinate assistance in the form of food, shelter, and emotional support to 32 individuals due to fire damage to the ten unit building. Through November, the Red Cross Raleigh Region has provided fire assistance to 1,440 individuals since July of 2011.
“We’re deeply saddened for those who lost everything in this fire which is especially difficult on Christmas Day,” said Barry Porter, Red Cross Regional Executive. We are so grateful to our Red Cross volunteers who are members of the Chapter’s Disaster Action Team, a group of specially trained volunteers who respond to the scene of a local disaster when called upon at any time of the day or night.”
To make a financial donation to your local Red Cross to help people affected by house fires and other disasters here in the United States and around the world, you can visit triangleredcross.org or send a check to Triangle Area Chapter, 100 N. Peartree Lane, Raleigh, NC 27610.

Our partners include Helping Hands Mission, Salvation Army and The Green Chair Project for furniture donations.
“As we continue to provide support to those affected, we also encourage others to take action to minimize the risk of a home fire, said Barry Porter.” For more Red Cross fire safety and preparedness information visit www.redcross.org/homefires.”
