Washington, NC, October 8, 2010 – One Red Cross shelter remains open in North Carolina to help those displaced from their homes by the rising floodwaters.

Red Cross is also providing meals, snacks, drinks and clean-up kits to those affected by the floods. Our ERVs (Emergency Response Vehicles) will be making the rounds during lunch & supper at these locations within Beaufort and Craven counties throughout the weekend:
Voice of America Road and Minuteman Lane: Beaufort County
In and around Holly Ridge Trailer Park, Vanceboro: Craven County
The American Red Cross will have also an Emergency Aid Station in New Bern this weekend:

Red Cross volunteers will be distributing clean up kits, flat shovels, trash bags, hand sanitizer, tarps, work gloves, bleach, snacks and water. We will also have mental health and health services available for those affected by the floods.
Red Cross volunteers will also be in Jones County; specifically Oak Grove Road in Pollocksville and Trent Acres in Trenton on Saturday. Our ERV (Emergency Response Vehicle) will arrive at 9:00am Saturday and will remain until everything has been distributed.
Red Cross has provided more than 2,640 meals, more than 4,800 snacks and more than 710 clean-up kits since the beginning of the storm. More than 200 Red Cross disaster workers have been deployed to North Carolina to support efforts there, along with ten emergency response vehicles loaded with snacks, drinks, comfort kits and cleaning kits. The Red Cross was able to respond immediately to the needs of those affected because of our readiness efforts ahead of the storm.
