Pakistan Flood Relief - Walk for 20 Million People - November 20th
Bond Park, Cary, NC
Local Triangle residents and members of the Pakistani-American Anjuman (PAA) of NC have formed a Flood Relief Committee (FRC) and arranged a walk, partnering with American Red Cross, to raise awareness and collect donations to help those devastated by the massive flooding in Pakistan that occurred this past July.
On November 20th, FRC will host Walk for 20 Million People, a 3K Walk and Family Event to help the 20 million who have been displaced by the floods in Pakistan.
Pakistan is facing one of the worst natural disasters in their history. One-fifth of Pakistan -- about the size of Florida is under water. The United Nations says nearly 2000 people have died and 1.2 Million homes have either been washed away or are damaged. 3.5 million Children are at high risk of deadly waterborne diseases.
Walk for 20 Million People is open to the public, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Share Our Shoes will collect donations of gently worn shoes to send to those in need in Pakistan.
More than 20 million people have been affected by the floods, which is more than the number of people affected by the 2005 South Asia tsunami, the 2005 South Asia earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined.
“Unfortunately this disaster has not received enough coverage and people are still unaware of the intensity of the disaster” says Dr. Nadia Pasha, PAA of NC. “It is said to be 10 times worse than hurricane Katrina, which we all know was absolutely devastating!”
Foreign donations for flood victims are very low compared to other such disasters:
Haiti Earth Quake Victims: Received $1,087.33 per victim
Tsunami Victims: Received $1249.80 per victim
Pakistan Flood Victims: Have received only $16.36 per victim
