TRIANGLE RED CROSS RESPONDS TO MULTI-UNIT FIRE
8 families affected and receiving Red Cross assistance
RALEIGH, NC, March 9, 2011—The Triangle Red Cross responded to a fire this morning in the 100 block of Park Ave., Raleigh, providing emergency assistance in the form of food, shelter, medical assistance, infant supplies, and emotional support.
“We’re deeply saddened for those affected,” said Barry Porter, Regional Executive for the American Red Cross. “As we continue to provide them with emergency assistance, we also encourage others to take action to minimize the risk of a home fire.”
Members of the community who wish to help can take action to minimize the risk of a fire occurring in their own home, and make a tax-deductible donation to the American Red Cross by visiting TriangleRedCross.org/donate or texting REDCROSS to 90999.
The Red Cross recommends installing smoke alarms on each level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside of sleeping areas. Use the test button to test each smoke alarm once a month. All smoke alarm batteries need to be replaced once a year. Every family should have a fire escape plan that includes at least two escape routes from every room in the home, and includes a convenient meeting place at a safe distance from the home.
Last year, the Red Cross responded to over 300 home fires in the Triangle. You can help your neighbors recover from disasters like home fires by making a financial contribution to the Red Cross today at TriangleRedCross.org/donate.
