Single mother Keisha and her two children, Kiyanna, 5, and Kimmona, 2, came to the Red Cross for help with 2 of her neighbors, after their apartments had been destroyed by fire.
A Red Cross volunteer then gave Kiyanna a Comfort Kit, a package put together by volunteers containing several simple toiletry items to help its recipient begin recovering from disaster.
Kiyanna took the bag and inventoried its contents, telling her mother “I have my own comb and my own toothbrush and toothpaste and my own bar of soap!”
For a moment, all that she had lost was forgotten. She was beginning to recover.
Never think that your donation to the American Red Cross is “too small” or “not much”. Even something as simple as a bar of soap and a washcloth can mean the world to someone who has lost everything.
You can help hundreds of Triangle families recover from disasters that happen every day,
and turn heartbreak into hope.
