Rosemary and Smedes York Announced as Honorary Chairs for Red Cross Ball

 

Rosemary and G. Smedes York have graciously agreed to serve as honorary chairs for the 21st Annual Red Cross Ball on April 21st at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. The Carolina Nights Ball: Southern Lights and Seaside Nights is the Triangle Chapter’s largest fundraiser and this year we are planning for 400 people to dance the night away to the music of perennial favorite, The Embers.

Smedes is Chairman of York Properties, Inc. and of related companies Prudential York Simpson Underwood and McDonald York Building Company. He served on the Raleigh City Council and two terms as Mayor. His current positions include Board of Directors of the Research Triangle Foundation and North Carolina Amateur Sports. Smedes has been inducted into the Raleigh Hall of Fame and into the North Carolina Business Hall of Fame.

Rosemary York is a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a degree in Political Science.  She also received a Master’s Degree in Education from UNC.  She is a community volunteer and has been active in many organizations including the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh Fine Arts, and the Gregg Museum at NC State.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of McDonald York Building Company and York Properties, Inc.  Smedes and Rosemary have two sons, George and William and three grandsons, Smedes, Bowen and Crawford.

Join the Yorks on April 21st and enjoy fine food and beverages, dancing, live & silent auctions and a raffle while raising money and awareness for the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross. Funds raised will provide emergency communications and assistance for veterans, active military personnel and their families; offer financial assistance, shelter, basic needs and mental health support to the hundreds of families in our community who will lose their homes to disaster this year; help recruit individuals to donate blood, thereby helping to save and sustain lives at area hospitals; and teach lifesaving skills.
